How Shipixen got its users
Sold to the maker audience the founder posts to daily, on the exact pain that audience complains about publicly.
Best guess. A working hypothesis. Useful to think with, not to repeat as fact.
You could start this on Monday. No budget, no audience, no permission needed.
- A launch that does not start from zero
- A direct relationship that survives algorithm changes
- 12 to 36 months of publishing before launch
- Accepting that you are the face of the product
- A topic where you have standing
Founder-led in 2026
Works extremely well, but it is an asset you build before the product, not during.

Page UI (pageui.dev, MIT at github.com/danmindru/page-ui) is Shipixen's free half: the same landing page sections, copy-paste, set up with npx @page-ui/wizard init. Every page there carries one link back, "Skip the setup", to shipixen.com. Split your paid product the same way: the part anyone can copy for free, and the wiring (branding, repo, deploy) they pay to skip. The free half is the distribution, not a teaser.
done whenName the exact slice of your product you could give away MIT-licensed without killing a sale. If giving it away would cost you nothing, it is too thin for anyone to want.

shipixen.com/demo/landing-page-component-examples renders every landing section live, with a Code button and one-click "Thief Mode" copy. No account, no email. Dan's stated rule is show don't tell: replace stock artwork with the thing actually running. Build one public URL where your product runs in full, linkable and indexable, then paste that URL as your answer everywhere instead of a pitch.
done whenOpen your own site in a private window. How far does a stranger get before a signup wall? If the answer is the hero section, you have nothing to link to in a thread.

Shipixen's Product Hunt product page lists three separate launches: the generator, a Shadcn UI Component Explorer, and a Pricing Page Generator. Each is a usable free tool for the same Next.js builder, each links home. Pull two small pieces out of your codebase and ship each with its own name and URL. The launch-day ranking came from an audience he already had; the tools keep pulling from search and shares regardless.
done whenList the internal utilities you built for yourself while building the product. Two should be shippable as standalone free tools this month. If none are, you have no spare parts to give away.

Page UI's own landing page was built with Shipixen, and he says so on the site. The Shipixen blog runs a recurring showcase series, "3 Awesome Apps Powered by Shipixen", linking out to customer sites. Do both: build your marketing site with your own product and state it on the page, then publish a running list of what customers shipped, with links. They get the traffic, you get proof a buyer can click.
done whenWas your own landing page built with your product? If not, work out why you avoided it. That reason is the objection your buyers have and are not telling you.

What the audience did: Dan posts to indie makers on X daily and had that following before Shipixen sold, so the launch spikes are not copyable. The format is. He ships GIFs of the thing working instead of announcements, and wrote a post on blog.mindrudan.com arguing the link belongs in the tweet itself, not the first reply. With no following, put that same demo where Next.js buyers compare: boilerplatelist.com, saasboilerplates.dev, devhunt.org all carry Shipixen pages.
done whenCount the places you can post a working demo today that are not your own feed. If your plan needs followers you do not have, it is not a plan yet.
