The map
There are only twelve ways
Not fifty. Twelve. And most of them are out of reach for you right now, which is exactly the thing worth knowing before you spend six months on one.
Programmatic SEO
One generated page per entity (city, tool, integration, comparison) captures thousands of long-tail queries.
Still alive, but the bar has moved. Thin pages get deindexed, so you need real data on every single page.
Editorial SEO
Hand-written content on the queries your buyers type, with authority built one article at a time.
The channel most damaged by AI answers. It still works if you bring data or an opinion, not a summary.
Organic social
Short-form content published at volume on TikTok, Reels or Shorts, where the algorithm does the distribution.
The cheapest channel and the hardest one. Entry cost is zero, the real cost is your consistency.
Founder-led
The founder's personal audience is the launchpad for every release.
Works extremely well, but it is an asset you build before the product, not during.
Community
A community (Reddit, Discord, forum, Slack) carries the product and manufactures word of mouth.
Excellent for retention, slow for acquisition. It does not create the first wave, it amplifies it.
Viral product
Normal use of the product exposes it to non-users: a share, an invite, a public artifact.
The best channel when it exists. But it is decided in product design, not in marketing.
Paid advertising
Buying attention on Meta, Google, TikTok or Apple Search Ads, paid back by LTV.
Available to everyone, so no edge in itself. You are not buying growth, you are buying speed on economics that already work.
Creators and UGC
Creators make the content and lend their audience, for free, for affiliate, or for cash.
The most effective channel in consumer mobile today, and the most saturated at the top end.
App Store search
The user searches the function in the store and lands on your listing. Conversion is won on the icon, the title and the first three screenshots.
Underrated and still profitable on utility functions. Saturated in high-LTV categories.
Third-party platform
Distribution is delegated to an ecosystem: Chrome Web Store, Shopify, Figma, Notion, GPT Store, Raycast.
The best effort-to-result ratio at the start, and the biggest platform risk later.
Launch and press
A concentrated spike of attention: Product Hunt, Hacker News, tech press, X.
It does not build a company. It builds a starting base and backlinks. Treat it as an event, not a channel.
Outbound sales
Humans contact target accounts one at a time, by email, LinkedIn or phone.
The only channel that still works when the ticket is high and the market is narrow. Pointless under $200 a month.
