Third-party platform in 2026

The best effort-to-result ratio at the start, and the biggest platform risk later.

The play

5 steps, in the order they ran them.

  1. 1

Pick a host whose users already hold the data and lack a front end. softr.io/data-sources/airtable does this in one table: left column the Airtable limit ("Airtable branding always visible on external views", "Editing access in Airtable requires a paid collaborator seat"), right column the Softr answer. Write that table for your host before you write code. Every row is a gap the host chose not to fill, never a row that reads as an attack on the host.

done whenOpen your own site. Is there a page naming the host platform and listing, row by row, what its users cannot do inside it today? If your homepage is the only answer, you have no gap table yet.

  2. 2

Read airtable.com/developers/extensions/guides/submit-to-marketplace and build the listing pack first: name, square icon, publisher name and icon, one-sentence short description, long description, screenshots at 300x500px minimum, support email, support URL, and the two that decide it, thorough reviewer instructions plus a read-only example base invite link. You ship with block submit. A reviewer who cannot reproduce your value in that sandbox base rejects you.

done whenHand your reviewer instructions and sandbox link to someone who has never seen your product. If they message you a question before reaching your core screen, a reviewer will stall in the same place.

  3. 3

The listing sends the click; the connect flow keeps it. docs.softr.io/data-sources/airtable walks users through Connect Data Source, an OAuth grant Softr asks them to widen to all current and future bases in all workspaces, then base, then table, then mapping Airtable columns to Softr fields. That scope prompt is where host users quit. State what you read and what you never touch at the grant screen itself.

done whenCount the screens in your own product between the connect button and a first real record on display. Write the number down. If it takes more than a handful, your problem is the connect flow, not the listing.

  4. 4

Own the pages the marketplace click lands on. Softr runs softr.io/data-sources/airtable, a family of /create/airtable-supplier-portal, /create/airtable-employee-portal and other host-noun pages, and softr.io/softr-vs-airtable-interface-designer, subtitled "The #1 Airtable Interface Designer alternative". Build one page per host plus job, and one page against the host's own native feature, comparing scope rather than quality.

done whenSearch your host platform's name plus your three main job words. Do you own a dedicated page for each pairing, or are you sending every click to one homepage?

  5. 5

Then run a marketplace, not just rent one. Softr Universe takes submitted apps against criteria published on docs.softr.io: solve real business problems, be functional and tested, clean professional UX, strong UI, good practices for user permissions and security, decision inside one month, notice only if accepted. Accepted apps get promoted on Softr's site, blog, newsletter and social. Publish your bar, and a gallery filtered like softr.io/templates by use case and industry.

done whenAre your acceptance criteria on a public page anyone can read before submitting, and did you turn down at least one submission this month for missing them?
