How Castmagic got its users
Sponsoring podcasters who use the tool on their own show and mention it inside the episode.
Best guess. A working hypothesis. Useful to think with, not to repeat as fact.
You could start this on Monday. No budget, no audience, no permission needed.
- Social proof you could never manufacture yourself
- A creative library for paid advertising
- A product you can demonstrate on screen
- A sourcing and contracting process
- Budget, or a product desirable enough to get it free
Creators and UGC in 2026
The most effective channel in consumer mobile today, and the most saturated at the top end.
Everything on this channel →The play
5 steps, in the order they ran them.
- 1
Fix the output shape before you talk to any creator. Castmagic's own show Uploading publishes every episode page in one fixed block: About The Episode, Today we'll cover, 2 IDEAS FROM THE PODCAST, 1 KEY LEARNING, Timestamps. Same headings, every time. Run three of your own recordings through your product and publish that block publicly. That repeatable structure is what you hand a podcaster later. Not a brief, a shape they paste in.
done whenCan you paste your output into a podcast description field with zero editing? If you still clean it up by hand first, a creator will not use it a second time.
- 2
Pick podcasters by their description field, not download counts. Open a feed in Apple Podcasts and read the episode blurb. One flat paragraph or a raw link dump means notes are the chore nobody does. Message that host: you will run their last three episodes yourself and send back the finished block, timestamps included, no fee. The artifact is the note block they paste into their own feed, with one line naming the tool at the bottom.
done whenCount how many of the last ten shows you opened have thin or empty episode descriptions. Under three, you picked the wrong niche and the free work will not land.
- 3
Make the on-air mention a workflow report, not an ad read. Ask for one specific sentence: when in their week they ran the episode through it, and what came out. Castmagic imports straight from RSS, YouTube, Zoom, Loom and Wistia, so the honest line is usually 'I dropped the raw file in before we published, the timestamps below came out of that.' Never send a script. Send the sentence shape and let the host fill it in their voice.
done whenRead the mention out loud with your product name removed. If it still describes a real step in the host's week, it holds. If it collapses into praise, rewrite it.
- 4
Pay in distribution, not cash. Castmagic runs Uploading, where Blaine and Ramon interview creators, founders and operators about the systems behind their content. Book the same podcasters you comped as guests. They get an episode plus a clip pack, you get a recording, and the shownotes for that episode are made with the product, publicly, on your own site. Five guests is a real slate when you start with no audience.
done whenDoes your show give a guest something they cannot make alone: clips, notes, a specific audience? If the invite is only 'come talk to me', creators will not book.
- 5
Only after a host has published notes from three of their own episodes, offer the cut. Castmagic gates it: the footer Affiliate Program link goes to an application you approve, and the terms pay monthly above a threshold, with commission earned only once the referred customer clears the refund window. Approve slowly. Also point them at the Uploading Community so the relationship keeps running after the sponsored episode drops.
done whenCan you see which creator sent each signup, and pay them without a manual spreadsheet? If not, hold off on offering a cut and keep comping seats instead.
